A Greek Perspective on the Church of Thessalonica

This week for our Wednesday night study of 1 Thessalonians, Drama Evangelist Rich Swingle interviewed Rev. Panagiotis Kantartzis, who pastors the First Evangelical Church of Athens, Greece, and is the author of A Christian’s Pocket Guide to Eastern Orthodox Theology: An Evangelical Perspective. He grew up an hour from Thessaloniki, which is where Paul wrote his letters to the Thessalonians. Pastor Kantartzis shares insights from his own experience and studies.

Our Hallelujah Service

Tonight's Hallelujah Service celebrated the reign of Light on a night the world celebrates the temporal reign of darkness.

We didn't want to record the Zoom service because of the annoying announcement that it's being recorded, so our lead pastors, including Pastor Linda Warren, who put the service together, decided Pastor Joyce and Drama Evangelist Rich Swingle should record all the passages that were read beautifully by different members of our congregation during the actual service.

Enjoy our celebration of the Great High King!

Hallelujah Service

Rich put this prayer (Ask for
the peace of Jerusalem) in the
Wailing Wall of Jerusalem in
2011.

Pastor Rachel Taylor led our Hallelujah Service today, based on Psalm 122. We didn't record the actual service because it was so interacted, but Pastor Rachel recorded a summary.     Pastor Linda Warren prayed for the peace of Jerusalem, and Drama Evangelist Rich Swingle prayed for peace in America.

Hope in the Lord

Rich and Pastor Joyce Swingle were guest presenters on this morning's Zoom service for Hope Community Church of the Nazarene. Rich performed "The Potter" from his one-man play Big Fish Little Worm, and Joyce taught on their marriage verse: Jeremiah 29:11. She frames up ways to hope in the Lord during this strange season of pandemic.

Keep Your Eyes on Jesus

Drama Evangelist Rich Swingle exhorts the congregation to keep their eyes on Jesus -- not on the storm or fear around them -- as he illustrates Matthew 14: 22-33 with a video reenactment of Peter walking on the water.

The video was shot in Israel in 2011 while on the Sea of Galilee. You can see it below.

Rich also sings Rich Mullins' song I See You and plays a music video Sanctify My Life from Rich's film A Matter of Perspective. You can see the music video below.

Pictured below is the family farm to which Rich refers; he also refers to his one-man play about 911 called 5 Bells for 911.

Good Friday Service

Pastor Joyce Swingle put together a script of the story of Christ's Passion taken from all four Gospels, and she and Drama Evangelist Rich Swingle recorded a dramatic reading, illustrated with works of classic artists over a music bed by John Fornof. This was conceived and performed live for the Good Friday service at Westchester Chapel Church of the Nazarene, April 10, 2020.

We're revising it and will repost it later.

Let's Worship Together Online

Though we've canceled this Sunday's service because of the impending Winter Storm Harper, that won't stop us from connecting!

We just gathered for praise and prayer via conference call, and now we recommend the following:

Start with worship through your music service of choice. Note, we're putting links to the songs we recommend, which show multiple ways to listen, but we do not necessarily endorse any commercials that may play before the songs or as closable windows on video streaming services.

Here are songs Pastor Linda Warren recommends for before the sermon:

All Honor by Ron Kenoly
Ancient of Days by Ron Kenoly
Be Unto Your Name by Robin Mark

Here they are in a single playlist on YouTube:

Then listen to Pastor Linda's message from our Fear and Courage series, "Courage: Take Back What's Been Stolen." She preaches on 1 Samuel 30. Her running illustration is about how something was stolen, and the answer to the mystery is unbelievable! Pastor Jim Warren opens the service.

Click the arrow below, or if you're reading this in an email you can click this link, to play the service:

After listening to the message continue in worship:

We're Going Up to the High Places by Ron Kenoly
Whose Report Shall You Believe by Ron Kenoly

Here they are in a single playlist on YouTube (for the last song you'll need to take it out of full-screen mode and click "SHOW MORE" for the lyrics):

Because we're such a far flung congregation, we don't have Sunday evening services, but if you'd like to hear another sermon, we just posted the message Pastor Joyce Swingle preached in Greve, Denmark. Greve is to Copenhagen what White Plains is to New York City. Here's the link to Pastor Joyce's message, "Love in Denmark," on John 4:7-21.
